Can Staying Healthy Help The Environment?
Many of us think that to help the environment one needs to use less paper or electricity or recycle stuff. Today as I was eating my breakfast a thought came to my head – can I help the environment by being healthy? Well, let me admit that I am not a very healthy person, though I have my bouts of health consciousness! In the last couple of days, I have started to eat more salads and fruits and less rice or fried stuff. May be that’s why my brain is thinking about health stuff. Here are some of my thoughts on how ...
COLOURS – GHAZAL KE ANEK RANG
For the seasoned ghazal listener, or for the relative novice; there can hardly be a better compilation of ghazals on a single album. Just when your dad thought his old LP's and audio tapes had cast away his priceless ghazal collection, Sa Re Ga Ma has released Colours – Ghazal Ke Anek Rang. By bringing together the doyens of ghazal singing (Beghum Akhtar & Jagjit Singh), and a selection of some of ghazal history's choicest (Mere Humnafas Mere Humnava, Hazaron Khwaishen Aisi); Colours presents a most delectable feast for the sung-poetry fan. While the lyric of poets like Ghalib and ...
Decade Of Great Fusion: 2000-2009
Fusion lovers take heart, for there is finally an album where you're likely to love each track! Often times on a fusion album, one likes a couple of songs, and then the music gets repetitive. In the Decade of Great Fusion, EMI presents an anthology of sorts. A lot of the big names in fusion have made their way into this compilation, featuring some of the more noteworthy fusion artists and their works over the past decade. From rhythm maestro Taufiq Qureshi (the other genius son of Ustad Alla Rakha) to in some ways his Bengali counterpart Bikram Ghosh; the ...
Lights, Ignition, Action – Bollywood’s Most Suited Automobiles
A screaming Basanti storms through the hinterland on her 'dhanno' led horse carriage. Jai & Veeru sing in gay abandon as they travel in their old faithful, the Scooter + One chariot. These were the vehicles of choice for an iconic generation of Films & film stars in Bollywood. Today, films have witnessed a sea-change in automobiles. With the most exotic Ferraris & Lamborghinis to the overtly macho Hummers; Bollywood has its hands and feet, firmly wrapped around the best vehicles money can buy! Such has been the impact of the automotive revolution, cars/bikes have gained no lesser status than ...
Walking The City Of Joy!
It’s a wonder why this concept is so new in this country. With the bustling galis of Chandini Chowk or the chaos of Crawford Market, the best and perhaps the only way of experiencing the heart of an Indian city is on foot. Well established in Europe and Japan and setting off on the right ‘foot’ in India are these fascinating Walking Tours. A good place to start your meandering is with ‘Calcutta Walks’. This grand colonial capital may have been rechristened Kolkata, but it remains the city of joy. Its glorious British Raj heritage captures you. And ‘CalWalks’ claim their ...
