Now, Beauty Makeovers With The Holy Cow!

“All the good ideas I ever had came to me while I was milking a cow.” Grant Wood.
If Cleopatra could look stunning bathing in ass’s milk, would you try something similar if it promises to give you a flawless complexion? Indian researchers seem to have to taken a leaf out of Cleopatra’s beauty book and have come up with cosmetics using (hold your breath, literally!) cow’s dung and urine, according to a write up in TOI.
Don’t believe me? Pay and visit to Gau Vigyan Anusandhan Kendra at Deolapar, situated 65 km from Nagpur for a first hand experience. The center claims to have won several patents from the United States and China for its urine distillate. The research center also runs a clinic where hundreds of patients suffering from various skin diseases, eczema, psoriasis, and obesity benefit from the healing properties of cow dung and urine.
“Cow urine has been developed as a bio-enhancer of anti-infective, anti-cancer agents and nutrients. The invention relates to novel pharmaceutical composition comprising an effective amount of bioactive fraction from cow urine distillate as a bio-availability facilitator and pharmaceutically acceptable additives selected from anti-cancer compounds, antibiotic drugs, therapeutic and nutrapeutic agents.” says co-ordinator Sunil Mansinghka.
Using dung and cow urine for antibacterial and medical properties is not new, at least in India. I still remember how women would spread cow dung across the courtyard of the houses and sprinkle cow urine to sanitize the houses every Thursday evening in my ancestral village. I also remember seeing local quacks advising the sick to drink a few teaspoons of cow’s urine. However, Ayurvedic experts combine a couple of herbs and medicinal ingredients and come up with tonics, tablets ( to make it more palatable, I guess) and ointments.
Once I stumbled upon this article, the curious side of me just had to find out if such products do exist. Of course, they do! Dr. Virendra Kumar Jain is a cow urine therapist and holds a patent for his discovery and innovation of cow urine therapy & therapeutic ayurvedic composition. He has formulated a couple of tonics, creams and lotions to get rid of acne and freckles, cracked heels, cleanse your system and make you slim too.
So, would you risk slathering a dung face pack if it claims to add glow to your skin ? Would you give such unusual cosmetics a try?

Now, how about saying cheers to the herbal soft drink made of cow urine (courtesy of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha) instead of the regular Pepsi to get your tummy cleansed?
On the serious note however, cattle rearing may soon be the most profitable business ever( heartening news for Lalooji, I am sure)!
