Plastic From Your Garbage To Make Roads Wonderful!

Believe it or not- pet bottles and plastic in general constitute a large part of the non-organic garbage. Now this  Bangalore based company is turning this monster problem into a high-class solution.

KK Plastic Waste Management, run by brothers Ahmed and Rasool Khan, collects thousand of tonnes of waste plastic from garbage bins across India’s IT hub through a network of municipal workers, rag pickers and their own employees. The plastic is then shredded and mixed with asphalt to form a compound called polymerized bitumen. When used in paving, the brothers say it withstands monsoons and daily wear and tear better than traditional methods, and also reduces pot holes.

This couldn’t have come at a better time since India is rolling up its sleeves to build some serious road infrastructure. One would only want to hope that the roads built by the Government would stay that way for many years to come. So with a hope and a prayer to better roads, I say that the Government should look into KK Plastic Waste Management’s solution to increase the longevity of the roads and improve Waste Management. Apart from killing the two birds (waste management and roads) this could be also be a big boost to the Indian tourism industry which suffers from the poor image of ‘dirty’ and ‘infrastructure’.
